This is my signature assignment from my Sociology 1010 course.  We were required to break a social norm as an experiment, and were given the freedom to chose how we decided to go about doing that.  I chose to use maintaining eye-contact with strangers in a public setting as the method by which I broke a social norm.  The norm being that you don't stare at people, especially strangers.  I was surprised at how soon I became comfortable with something that had previously been very difficult for me.  This just goes to show how easily social norms can be changed, and it also explains why social norms vary so drastically from culture to culture.  Norms are socially constructed and change over time and place.
